MediaTek Genio

Aaeon has turned to Genio processors from fellow Taiwanese company Mediatek for its latest Smark modules.

The first Aaeon products to get MediaTek ICs, uCOM-M700 has an octa-core Genio 700, while uCOM-M510 has the hexa-core Genio 510.

“Both platforms leverage Arm’s big.LITTLE architecture for efficient processing, as well as an integrated NPU and VPU to go along with an on-chip Mali-G57 GPU,” said Aaeon.

In detail, the 700 has dual 2.2GHz Cortex-A78, 6x 2GHz Cortex-A55 and a 4Top/s G57 MC3 GPU, while the 500 has dual 2GHz A78, quad 2GHz A55, and a 3.2Tops G57 MC2.

Memory in both cases is up to 8Gbyts of LPDDR4, and for security TPM 2.0 is an option.

Each module is equipped with HDMI 2.0, DP 1.4, and eDP 1.2, with an additional MIPI DSI connector available upon request. Up to two displays can be driven simultaneously, one 4K and one 2K.

Other IO includes Gbit Ethernet with time sensitive networking support, two sets of 4- and 2-wire UART serial, 12-bit GPIO, SPI, QSPI, I2C and I2S.

Ubuntu LTS and Yocto are supported as operating systems, the latter with Chromium browser. Android and Debian can also be installed.

The modules measure 82x50mm and consume ~4.25W from 3V to 5.25V.

Cooling is passive, operation is over -40°C to +85°C (0 to +60°C is an option) and components are industrial grade, said the company “which makes them candidates for board-to-board carrier integration for industrial environments” and also for use in smart retail kiosks.

A carrier board, ECB-960T-A15, is available.

Established in 1992, Aaeon is based in Taipei.
